Lahlah: An Environmental-Friendly Space
Lahlah Magazine is an independent environmental journalism platform with a civic and critical approach. It focuses primarily on environmental issues in Syria, and more broadly on the West Asia region.
Our team includes journalists, writers, researchers, graphic designers, and photographers based both inside and outside Syria, all committed to environmental matters. Our main goals are to raise environmental awareness among Syrians and to influence future government policies in Syria to better address the environmental challenges facing the country and the world.
The name “Lahlah” was not chosen randomly. We spent a long time searching for a name that represents us and our homeland, and we found no name more fitting than Lahlah.
Lahlah is a flower that blossoms across different regions of West Asia. It is known by many local names and exists in several varieties, such as: Lahlah of Hauran, Lahlah of Jerusalem, Lahlah of Kobani, Lahlah of Taurus, Lahlah of Qalamoun, Kurdish Lahlah, and others. Most varieties bloom at the end of summer and the beginning of autumn, heralding the arrival of rain.
We believe that we—and our country—resemble the Lahlah flower: we grow everywhere, we appear in many forms and names, and both we and our homeland are as beautiful as this blossom. And like the Lahlah, we aim to signal (and hope for) a better future for ourselves and for Syria.
Why We Publish Only in Arabic
We create our content exclusively in Arabic. We do not publish our materials into other languages because our primary audience is Syrian, and Arabic remains the most widely spoken and accessible language for our community. Publishing solely in Arabic allows us to communicate more clearly, stay culturally relevant, and reach our readers in the most effective and meaningful way.
